What is the Doggomatic?

The Doggomatic is an innovative all-in-one leash attachment. The Doggomatic carries your roll of waste bags, along with a convenient way to dispense rewards for your dog.

With a simple push of a button, the Doggomatic dispenses a treat. It only requires one hand to operate - the same hand that pushes the button, is the hand that receives the treat.

Why choose Doggomatic over other treat dispensers?

There are several other methods out there to reward your dog for good behavior while on walks, but we believe that the Doggomatic is the most convenient of them all.

Compared to the silicone leash-mounted treat dispensers, the Doggomatic has several advantages. The Doggomatic dispenses a set quantity of treats, so you never end up with a handful of treats when you only wanted one. The Doggomatic also only requires one hand to operate, which leaves your other hand free to hold on to the leash.

Another common method of rewarding dogs on walks is to wear a separate treat pouch. The primary drawback of this method is that I always forget it at home - but the Doggomatic attaches to your leash.

Finally, unlike the existing options, the Doggomatic also includes storage for a roll of waste bags. It also includes a hook to hang used waste bags from.

Which treats are compatible with my Doggomatic?

The Doggomatic does not require any proprietary refills or treats, however we have found that some treats work better than others. If your treats are incorrectly sized, the Doggomatic may take several pushes of the button to feed a treat.

Doggomatics accept most reasonably sized kibble, although smaller kibbles may occasionally dispense two pieces instead of one. Our dog does not seem to mind.

The treat chamber is a 20mm diameter cylinder that is 15mm deep. Your treats should be smaller than that.

Treats that are confirmed to work:

Treats that will not work:

  • Milkbones

This list is growing through customer feedback. If you find a treat that works great with your Doggomatic, please send a feedback form and we will update this page.

Which bag rolls are compatible with my Doggomatic?

Current Doggomatics are sized around a 60mm tall roll of bags. This is the standard size, but we prefer these compostable bags for our Doggomatic.

If you are using a 70mm roll of bags (an alternate standard), then please add the extended bag lid cap into your cart.

If your bags do not fit either of these standards, please send feedback to us and we will work with you to find a solution.

Which strap length should I get?

For non-retractable single-length leashes, we prefer the shorter strap to keep your Doggomatic closer to your hand.

For plastic retractable leashes, the short strap length means that the Doggomatic constantly bumps into the leash and makes a banging noise. We are looking into ways to fix this (soft lid? a different attachment method?) but for now, a longer strap length should reduce the frequency of collision.

The soft lid is now available for sale as an add-on part. It is still experimental, so we are looking for feedback.

My Doggomatic isn't feeding very consistently, what can I do?

If you press the piston and the Doggomatic doesn't give you a treat, the easiest solution is usually to give the Doggomatic a bit of a shake and try again.

Factors that may be increasing the rate of misfeeds include:

  • Poorly sized treats
  • Overfilling of the treat compartment
  • Too soft treats

Why are Doggomatics 3D-printed, and what does that mean for me?

The Doggomatic is still in development, and we are taking user feedback into account. We are aiming to maintain a steady pace of improvement of the product, and 3D-printing allows us to make rapid changes to the design.

However, there are some drawbacks. First, Doggomatics take about 4 hours to print (as of v0.4), meaning that our inventory is fairly limited.

Second, 3D-printed items tend to be slightly more fragile than injection-molded ones. Doggomatics should be able to handle a fall onto concrete from waist high, but they might get damaged if your dog drags a Doggomatic down the block at full speed. Please let us know if anything breaks, and we will replace it with a stronger re-print of the broken part for free (and also likely update our design to stop it from happening to others).

Once we feel like Doggomatic is ready for a v1.0 release, we will begin looking at more easily scalable fabrication processes.

When can I expect a v1.0 release?

We are targeting November of 2024 as the conclusion of our 'open beta'. This should give enough time for our early adopters to find all the issues in their Doggomatics.
